Academia Lobbies Against Abstinence
As the deadline looms on renewing a key federal abstinence funding program called Title V, another questionable study is poised for release in the American Journal of Sociology on the “benign” effects of teen sex.
The article suggests that having sex at age 15 or older doesn’t have harmful emotional consequences after all. Of course, this assertion runs counter to decades of research which demonstrates that teens who engage in premarital sex experience increased depression and decreased self-worth.
However, the left is willing to use even flawed studies as ammunition in their war to slash Title V funding. Meanwhile, a movement of the nation’s pastors is raising alarm about the real-life consequences of promiscuity for America’s young people.
Concerned that the cultural emphasis on premarital sex is corrupting children whether or not raised in the church, a coalition of 27 ministries is urgently calling on American youth to pursue lives of sexual purity. Starting June 1, these leaders are asking the next generation to join in prayer and fasting the first Friday of every month.
