NEA Dues & Don’ts

The National Education Association (NEA), which for years has used its influence to transform public schools into incubators for its radical social agenda, is expected to continue its assault on life, faith, and marriage at its 146th national conference this week in Washington, D.C. Among the items on the group’s agenda, evidenced by the NEA’s own website, the gathering is expected to focus more on the nation’s political season than on the well-being of American students.

The NEA leadership has abused its mandate and used teachers’ dues to subsidize its liberal ideology, which includes everything from promoting homosexuality and same-sex marriage to contraception in schools and abortion on request. This morning, FRC joined in protesting the NEA’s pro-abortion policies at a press conference in our downtown D.C. headquarters. Together with NEA members, delegates, and nearly a dozen other groups, we also gathered outside of the NEA’s annual meeting at the Washington Convention Center in hopes of reminding the organization that the reason for its existence is the collective bargaining power of its members.

It is not the job of the NEA to issue mandates on social and moral issues. To do so is a misuse of members’ dues and a misrepresentation of teachers’ views. For more, log on to www.frc.org to watch video highlights.
