Californians Wanted a Day Off School to Protest Donald Trump’s Inauguration

School was already scheduled to be shortened due to exams, so it wouldn’t really make a big difference to cancel it:

Oakland Unified School District spokesman John Sasaki said most high schools have exams tomorrow so the regular schedule is already shortened. That way, he noted, students can “move quickly to join any demonstrations.”

A spokesman for the Berkeley District said students will be engaged in “grade-level appropriate activities” tomorrow. That is, if students actually come to class — about half of Berkeley HS’s 3,000 students walked out of school the day after Trump’s election.
