Florida Initiative Partners Sheriff’s Department with College Staffers to have Armed Staffers On-Campus

The Polk County Sheriff’s Department partnered with Southeastern College in Florida, training volunteers among its college staff to be armed deputies on the college campus, but to only respond to active shooter alerts. Now, Webber International University is joining the pilot program, which comes a couple weeks after a mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida high school.

The pilot program is called the Sentinel Program.
