University Eliminates Mandatory ‘Trigger Warnings’ after Lawsuit by Pro-Life Student Group

A display of crosses, symbolizing the number of dead infants due to the practice of abortion, was deemed as a  triggering display by the Miami University of Ohio administration. The display was organized by the Students for Life student chapter at the university.

The administration told the group that they had to post a “trigger warning” at the display, to avoid offending students. The Students for Life chapter sued the university, claiming it was infringing on their freedom of speech. Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) took up the lawsuit on the student chapter’s behalf.

The university settled with the Students for Life, amounting over $22,000 in attorney fees and the like, and eliminated the mandatory policy of issuing “trigger warnings” for its students.
