Marquette Professor Claims First Amendment Enables Racism

Jodi Melamed, a professor of English and Africana Studies at Marquette, implies that the Bill of Rights gives cover to bigotry. “In my book [Represent and Destroy] I focus on three domains of administration that reproduce capitalist violence as an open secret but all work together in practice,” she said in a lecture at St. Olaf’s College, as reported by Campus Reform. “The first is police procedures, the second is the exercise of rights, especially individual rights, property rights, states rights [and] free speech as well.”

She has also lectured on this topic at the University of Illinois.
