Harvard Black Law Students Neutral On Kavanaugh

The Harvard Black Law Students Association has pledged neutrality on President Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U. S. Supreme Court. “The Harvard Black Law Students Association announced Thursday afternoon that it is neutral regarding the nomination of Brett M. Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court after a letter from some group members praising the judge drew notice during his confirmation hearing Wednesday,” the Harvard Crimson reported. “The letter, addressed to Senators Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), chair and ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, respectively, praised Kavanaugh for his work with Harvard BLSA.”

“Eight current and former BLSA members — seven of whom graduated from the Law School last year — signed the letter, which referred to an event where Kavanaugh ‘encouraged’ and ‘mentored’ BLSA members.” Nevertheless, the BLSA’s neutrality pledge is quite remarkable in an age when there is precious little that universities or university organizations are neutral about.

Meanwhile, a survey of incoming freshman at Harvard reveals that the judge has just a bit more support among the Cambridge frosh than the man who nominated him. Nine percent surveyed are either strongly or somewhat supportive of the nomination “while President Donald Trump polls at 7% favorability,” according to the survey.
