Media worries about ‘misgendering’ of Nashville school shooter
The gender identity issues facing the country were, unfortunately, highlighted in the mainstream media’s coverage of the tragic shooting at a Nashville, Tennessee school. The police officers entered the school, tracked the perpetrator to the second floor, and ended the threat (i.e. killed the perpetrator). But it was not before the perpetrator killed three adults and three children at The Covenant School, which is a Presbyterian school.
The Nashville police department initially identified the perpetrator as a woman until receiving more information about the perpetrator, which caused the media’s gender pronoun confusion.
But the gender pronoun activists blamed the media and city police department for “misgendering” the perpetrator. “Misgendering,” according to the Left, is mislabeling someone’s gender pronoun.
The New York Times, CNN, and MSNBC had to issue corrections in its coverage of the shooting over using the incorrect gender pronoun.
The New York Times wrote, “There was confusion later on Monday about the gender identity of the assailant in the Nashville shooting. Officials had used ‘she’ and ‘her’ to refer to the suspect, who, according to a social media post and a LinkedIn profile, appeared to identify as a man in recent months.”
CNN said, “Police have referred to Hale as the “female shooter” and at an evening press conference added that Hale was transgender. When asked for clarification, a spokesperson told CNN Hale used “male pronouns” on a social media profile.”
An update from MSNBC said, “Update: A previous post about the Nashville Christian school shooting included initial information from police officials about the suspect’s gender. Those officials have since noted that the shooter was transgender.”
The mainstream media’s apology-of-sorts is an example of how gender pronoun hysteria is twisting the Left into knots. One cannot blame the city police for “misgendering” the perpetrator of a terrible crime when the deceased perpetrator looks like a biological female.
The perpetrator’s name was Audrey Hale, aged 28, who had recently been identifying as a male named “Aiden” and using masculine gender pronouns. Hale was a former student at The Covenant School and had been working as a freelance graphic designer after graduating from an arts college. The perpetrator left behind at least one written statement detailing the reasons behind the shooting, which “manifesto” has not been made public and it has led to speculation that it was an anti-Christian hate crime.
