New Jersey Board of Education imposes gender-neutral terms as part of ‘equity’ policy
Contrary to the mainstream media narrative, parents are not all in favor of the education bureaucracy’s focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives at the state and local levels. Case in point is a contentious public meeting in New Jersey, where the state’s Board of Education narrowly readopted a so-called “equity” policy that imposed gender-neutral terms for all New Jersey students.
According to Fox News, the board voted 6-5 to keep the policy in place. The policy changed terms such as male, female, and minority to “all students.”
Equity is defined as “all [groups of] students have the opportunity to master the goals of the curriculum [to approximately the same degree] in an educational environment that is fair, just, and impartial to all individuals.” Other definitions under the policy are gender identity (defined as “having or being perceived as having a gender-related identity or expression whether or not stereotypically associated with a person’s assigned sex at birth”) and the deletion of the term “gender.”
Parents attended the public meeting and several disagreed with the policy, but it did not sway the board’s final decision. Yet it shows that parental input matters, even if votes do not go the way that some parents would like and parent’s participation also debunks much of the media’s misleading narrative that parents do not care about the ongoing culture wars on gender identity.
