Trump Derangement Syndrome is Alive and Well at UCLA

Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) can take many forms and at UCLA it is the absolute hate and vitriol of Donald Trump after he completed and amazing political comeback by winning the presidential election in November.

No sooner than Trump’s victory been declared UCLA’s campus newspaper The Daily Bruin published a hate-filled editorial calling the president-elect a racist, misogynist and liar and that his election is the beginning of a slide towards fascism.

While listing many allegations against Trump relating to his previous business dealings and the 2020 elections the editorial fawned over Kamala Harris who now only lost the popular vote to Trump but received about 6 million fewer votes than Joe Biden did in 2020.

Over the past eight years, Trump has been unapologetically clear about what type of leader he is – one who prioritizes his ego above the American people and appears determined to hold the country hostage to his will.

Yet voters chose this man over Kamala Harris, the highly qualified candidate who decisively outperformed Trump during their debate and offered a forward-thinking vision that stood in stark contrast to the former president’s “concepts of a plan.” Why?

There is no doubt that Trump has a massively large ego, but at the same time he loves American and connected with voters all across the spectrum pulling votes away from Harris who saw his vision as one they wanted versus Harris who couldn’t think of anything she would do differently than Joe Biden. Yet the Daily Bruin called this a forward-thinking vision.

Lacking any clear evidence that Trump would be bad for the country the Daily Bruin accused him of swindling voters.

Simply put, a number of American voters let Trump swindle them with false promises and fearmongering. They let him exploit their anxieties, buying into his rhetoric of quick fixes and believing that he was the savior of a nation ostensibly headed toward collapse. And Trump’s campaign intentionally preyed on those easily swayed by misinformation in a strategy that ultimately propelled him back into the White House.

The Daily Bruin was also concerned with Trump’s call to dismantle the Department of Education saying that a good education is a privilege but without the DOE it will be a rarity.

Trump won’t take office until next month but UCLA is already sounding the alarm of the dangers of a Trump presidency for America and putting Trump Derangement Syndrome ahead of common sense and the truth.
