A Bus Ride to Remember
A family has sued Carmel Clay Schools for what the father deems “harassment” of his daughter by a bus driver working for the school district.
Edward Zimmer claims that the bus driver, Betty Campbell, ridiculed his daughter because of her beliefs, reported 6 News on May 25, 2010. (A video record of the incident shows the bus driver calling the daughter, Rebecca, a “bigot”).
The suit was filed in December 2009 but the incident allegedly took place in November 2008, according to theIndyChannel.com.
“He [Zimmer] said the incident began during a ride home from school when his daughter told another student that she would never vote for President Barack Obama because of her anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage beliefs,” reported theINDYChannel.com.
“Zimmer said that led to an allegation that Rachael told other students that they would go to hell if they believed differently, something he said his daughter vehemently denies.”
Both the bus driver and Campbell chose not to comment for the article.
“Zimmer said Campbell then came back to the girl’s home after all of the children had been let off the bus and brought Rachael and her older sister, who were home alone at the time, onto her empty bus, berating Rachael about her opinions on gay marriage,” reported the IndyChannel.com.
