AAUP Misses Turning Point

Last Fall, a professor at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln harassed a Turning Points USA member posted at a literature table on campus, a situation that occurs all too regularly on American campuses.

But this time, TPUSA caught it on film. Now the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) has issued a report on the incident and what they seem to object to is not the harassment by the professor but the filming of it. “Her protest was recorded by the undergraduate student staffing the table, and the resulting video was widely disseminated online—one of the primary strategies of right-wing groups in their attacks on higher education—leading to threats against her and the university,” Joerg Tiede writes on the academe blog maintained by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). He doesn’t say what they threats were or provide documentation of them along with primary sources such as police reports.
