Asian-American Students Reinforce ‘Colorblind Racism’ by Integrating International Asian Students
A four-year research project by a college professor concluded that self-segregating Asian students, Asian-American and international Asian students, perpetuates “colorblind racism.” By taking responsibility to integrate international students, Asian-American students “also renders the experiences of racial marginalization and discrimination invisible for international and domestic racial minority students.”
The claim was made by Soo Ah Kwon, an Asian-American Studies professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. It was part of a study published in the recent issue of Race, Ethnicity, and Education (REE).
