LEWISBURG, Penn.–Tammy Bruce, a talk show host and author, will speak at Bucknell University on Thursday, February 28. Her speech, entitled “How Conservatives Empower Women, Blacks, and Gays,” will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Olin 268. The event is free and open to the public.
Tammy Bruce is a former president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women. She fought on the front lines for issues such as women’s image in media, abortion, child care, health care, violence against women, and domestic violence.
Bruce is also the first openly-gay, female mainstream radio talk show host. Her show was called the Tammy Bruce Show. She has authored many books, such as The New Thought Police and The Death of Right and Wrong, and is a renowned political commentator.
Travis Eaione, vice president for events of the Conservatives Club, said, “So many people on campus praise liberals for their feel-good remedies to alleviate the suffering of women, minorities, and gays. They don’t understand that these practices actually harm these groups. Tammy Bruce will illustrate how conservative policies are better suited to enhance their well-being.”
The Bucknell University Conservatives Club was founded in September 2001 to combat the systematic exclusion of conservative, libertarian, and classical liberal ideas from the University. It publishes a well-known magazine, The Counterweight, which won the Collegiate Network’s “Paper of the Year Award” for 2006-2007 and has hosted many speakers, including former United States Attorney General John Ashcroft last spring. One of the most successful student political organizations in the country, it was featured on the cover of the May 25, 2003 New York Times Magazine and has also received coverage from other broadcast and print media including MTV, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, the Washington Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and NPR.
Samantha Soller is the president of the Bucknell University Conservatives Club.
