Cal-Berkeley’s New Social Sciences Dean is No Fan of Conservatives

The University of California-Berkeley is hardly a hotbed of conservatism or even political neutrality. But, universities should strive for mutual respect of other’s opinions. This is not the case with the university’s newest social sciences dean, Raka Ray.

Ray was promoted last month to be the dean of social science at the university, per a university statement. Ray teaches sociology and South and Southeast Asian studies at the university.

But, in a 2017 lecture on International Women’s Day, Ray blasted conservatives for their alleged sexism against Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic Party nominee for president. In that lecture, she claimed that “right-wing ideology says ‘women should be put back in their place,'” without citing primary sources as academics ought to.

Another day, another liberal professor empowered at a liberal higher education institution.
