Concerns about Xenophobia leads to Effort to ‘Decenter English’ as Academic Language

English is commonly the lingua franca of academia, meaning that many academics and scholars learn English in order to communicate across cultures and countries.

Now, due to allegedly rising xenophobia and nationalism, an academic conference is calling for an effort to “decenter English.”
