A professor at California State University-Fresno has been placed on leave after she posted on social media at how happy she felt when former First Lady Barbara Bush died, leading to significant backlash. Randa Jarrar, who teaches English at the public university, tweeted about how Barbara Bush was an “amazing racist” who also “raised a war criminal.”

That was not the end of her anti-Bush tirade on Twitter. She also said, “I’m happy the witch is dead. can’t wait for the rest of the family to fall to their demise the way 1.5 million iraqis [sic] have.”

After the backlash which ensued, she doubled down and said, “All the hate I’m getting ALMOST made me forget how happy I am that George W Bush is probably really sad right now.”

The university condemned her remarks and placed her on leave, pending a review. She also locked her Twitter profile to apparently avoid more scrutiny after the controversy erupted.
