Fox News continues to dominate ratings as CNN sags

The February cable news ratings show that Fox News’ brand of conservative-oriented news is widely preferred by viewers over the liberal offerings of MSNBC and CNN.

After a third-place showing in January 2021, when MSNBC and CNN hyped 2020 election denialism and the January 6th riots on Capitol Hill, Fox News quickly regained its form and has racked up two consecutive years in first place.

A closer look at the ratings shows that Fox News had more total viewers than MSNBC and CNN in prime time combined by a margin of 2.26 million to 1.747 million, as well as more viewers in the key 25-54 age demographic (called “demo”) by a margin of 299,000 to 241,000.

CNN, which has been undergoing a makeover, averaged just 122,000 prime time demo viewers. It was their smallest audience since 2013 and their 89,000 total day demo viewers was its worst showing since 2012.

Without Donald Trump as their bogeyman and the ongoing scandals or struggles of the Biden administration, liberals have little reason to tune into MSNBC and CNN. Much to the consternation of the liberal networks, Fox News leaves both of them far behind.
