‘Free’ College for Rhode Island? Not So Fast

Democratic Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo said that she wants to expand an existing program, which offers free college tuition options for students who want to stay in-state for their higher education ambitions. The current program is called the Rhode Island Promise program.

Rhode Island is one of multiple states which offer free in-state tuition options for students to stay in their home state for higher education. The Promise program pushes local high school graduates to attend a local community college, complete it at no cost, but they do have to maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above as full-time students.

However, it is unsure if her proposal will pass, considering that the program’s results could be considered mixed results.
