The process by which public employee unions have been able to accumulate political capital by dunning union dues from non-union members has been in reversal and the beneficiaries of that old policy don’t like it one bit. “Twenty-eight states have enacted so-called right-to-work laws that prohibit agency fees,” Risa L. Lieberwitz writes on the academe blog maintained by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).

Lieberwitz is professor of labor and employment law at Cornell University and general counsel of the AAUP.
