Naval Academy Purges DEI Books from Library

The Trump administration’s effort to purge Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) material and policies from universities and colleges has reached the service academies with reports that the U.S. Naval Academy has removed nearly 400 books from its library that may run afoul of the new policies.

After being told to review the library late last week academy officials identified about 900 books for further scrutiny, They determined that 400 of those books needed to be removed and began doing so before Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was scheduled to visit the school on matters not related to the purge. The list of books that have been removed has not been made available.

The AP reported that Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said of the purge that , “All service academies are fully committed to executing and implementing President Trump’s Executive Orders.”

The Naval Academy along with the Air Force Academy and the U.S. Military Academy were not originally included in Trump’s executive order on DEI in January but the focus changed when it was learned that the Naval Academy had not removed books that promoted DEI.

All three academies have completed curriculum reviews to ferret out courses that promote DEI and the Air Force and West Point haven’t reviewed their libraries but may come soon given what has taken place at the Naval Academy.

Liberals expected a battle on DEI but didn’t expect the swiftness in which the Trump administration has dismantled the policies and curriculum that promoted it.
