A Portland State University professor has been cleared by the administration after being investigated over his journal article on the impact of colonialism on the local population. Bruce Gilley, who teaches political science, wrote that there were some positive benefits of colonialism, but he also acknowledged the negative impacts of colonialism on native populations.

The administration said it did not investigate him because of the journal article, but Gilley disagrees with their official position on the origins of the investigation.
