Schools Stuck in 1970s

Before he passed away, Cato Institute policy analyst Andrew Coulson had one more cogent piece of analysis to pass on to us in the form of a documentary PBS is airing. Veteran journalist John Stossel has the story.

“(E)ducational quality has been stuck in the era of disco and leisure suits for 40 years, while the rest of the world has passed it by,” Coulson noted.

“Principals, school boards and teachers — especially union teachers — have little incentive to try anything new,” Stossel observes. Indeed, they punish good teachers who threaten their livelihood like Jaime Escalante.
