Stanford University reverses position, won’t bring students back to campus

Like Harvard University, Stanford University will only offer online and virtual courses for its students and will not bring students on-campus for courses. As Inside Higher Ed reported, the northern California-based university initially said it would bring freshman, sophomore and new transfer undergraduate students to its campus in fall 2020. For the following spring 2021 semester, Stanford would welcome back junior and senior students.

The new announcement meant only a limited number of students can return to Stanford’s campus under very specific circumstances. The reason behind the reversal was the rise in coronavirus cases in the state of California, and the Pac-12 conference’s decision to postpone fall sports until spring 2021.

Stanford is a member of the Pac-12 conference for its athletics programs.
