U. S. Constitution Shows Signs of Life at Pierce College

Perhaps all it needed was a little love. “The Department of Justice today filed a statement in support of a lawsuit brought by a Pierce College student against the school and the Los Angeles Community College District, alleging policies that restrict student free speech rights to tiny zones are unconstitutional and infringe on 1st Amendment rights<" the City News Service reported in The LA Times. “The DOJ’s statement of interest, filed in Los Angeles federal court, argues that plaintiff Kevin Shaw has adequately shown his 1st Amendment rights to have been violated.”

“The DOJ alleges that the college’s speech policies amounted to an unconstitutional prior restraint that chilled free expression.” Ironically, and academia is rich is such ironies, Shaw was actually trying to distribute copies of the U. S. Constitution.
