UCLA has a Pilot Program to Fine Itself for Air Travel

UCLA is fining itself for using airline travel, which academics allege contributes to climate change (i.e. global warming). The initiative will place these fines into a sustainability fund and the university will re-evaluate the program in 2020.

Each university department pays $25 for each international round-trip that involves airline flights and $9 for domestic round-trip flights.
