University of Michigan Schedules Final Exams on Dec. 23, Squeezing Winter Break

A major problem is that Michigan law doesn’t allow state colleges to start school before Labor Day, which the university said was why they pushed the last day of final exams to December 23rd. Students complained it shortens their winter break and could affect their religious observance of the holiday season.
