University Of North Florida Drops Confucius Institute

It might be so biased and totalitarian that even university administrators notice. “The University of North Florida will close a campus branch of a Chinese-run cultural institute, the latest U.S. college to do so amid criticism from U.S. legislators that China uses the institute to influence American higher education,” Reuters reported. “The Jacksonville-based university said on Tuesday it had determined after ‘careful consideration’ that the Confucius Institute, which opened a branch there in 2014 to promote language and culture, did not meet the university’s mission.”

Texas A & M also did so “in response to the urging of two congressmen who described the institutes as threats to national security,” according to Inside Higher Ed.
